The United States and the Government of Burundi signed a five-year bilateral Memorandum of Understanding under the America First Global Health Strategy to strengthen Burundi’s capacity to detect and contain infectious diseases. The Department of State, working with Congress, intends to provide more than $129 million over five years to support HIV/AIDS and malaria programs and bolster surveillance and outbreak response, while Burundi has committed to increase its domestic health spending by $26 million.
