Rahsontanohstha Delormier, a dual
Canadian-American citizen from the Akwesasne Mohawk Indian Reservation, was extradited from
Canada to
Plattsburg,
New York, to face an indictment charging him with conspiracy to engage in alien smuggling and four counts of alien smuggling for profit related to a March 2023 smuggling event that resulted in the deaths of eight migrants, including two small children, in the
St. Lawrence River.
Delormier was arrested in Canada in August 2024; his and co-defendant
Stephanie Square’s extraditions followed cooperation between
U.S. and Canadian authorities. The case was investigated by HSI Massena with many U.S. and Canadian law enforcement partners and is being prosecuted by Joint Task Force Alpha alongside the Criminal Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for
the Northern District of New York.
