Treasury says Houthis generate over $2 billion a year from illicit oil sales

The U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated 21 individuals and entities and identified one vessel for transferring oil, procuring weapons, and providing financial services to Ansarallah (the Houthis), under Executive Order 13224. The action targets networks in Yemen, Oman, and the UAE — including oil companies, exchange houses, logistics firms, airlines, and ship operators — that the Treasury says facilitate Houthi revenue generation, weapons smuggling, and regional attacks. Designated parties have their U.S. property blocked, U.S. persons are generally prohibited from transacting with them, and violations can trigger civil or criminal penalties and potential secondary sanctions on foreign financial institutions.
